The short answer: spring and autumn are the best times for a golf holiday on the Costa del Sol, with warm, sunny days that are perfect for golf. But winter and summer both have real advantages, and many of our guests prefer them.
Spring (March to May)
Spring is the high season for golf on the coast. Days are warm and long, the courses are green and in excellent condition, and the almond and orange blossom makes the landscape beautiful. The downside is demand: tee times at the most popular courses go early and green fees are at their highest. If you are planning a spring trip, book several months ahead.
Summer (June to September)
Summer is hot, especially in July and August inland, so we plan early morning tee times and leave the afternoons for the beach and the pool. The advantages: long evenings, a lively atmosphere and, at many courses, reduced summer and twilight green fees. June and September are particularly pleasant.
Autumn (October and November)
Autumn is many golfers' favourite. The sea is still warm, the courses have recovered from summer and the light is beautiful. October is as popular as spring, so it is worth booking early. November is a little quieter, with mild days that are perfect for golf.
Winter (December to February)
Winter is the Costa del Sol's secret weapon. While northern Europe is grey and cold, days here are often sunny and mild, typically around 16–18 °C, and you can play in a jumper or even short sleeves. Some rain is possible, but it rarely lasts. Hotels are quieter and often better value, which makes winter ideal for longer stays.
Season by season at a glance
| Season | Weather for golf | Demand | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Winter (Dec–Feb) | Mild, mostly sunny | Lower | Long stays, value, escaping the cold |
| Spring (Mar–May) | Warm and ideal | Very high | Societies, the famous courses |
| Summer (Jun–Sep) | Hot; play early | Medium | Families, golf and beach |
| Autumn (Oct–Nov) | Warm and ideal | High | Societies, couples |
Our advice
If you can be flexible, late October and early March offer the best balance of weather, course condition and availability. And if you simply want sunshine when it's grey at home, winter is wonderful. Whatever the date, we'll suggest the courses and tee times that make the most of it.
