How to plan a golf holiday
on the Costa del Sol.

Where to stay, how many rounds to play, what to bring and the small details that make a trip run smoothly.

A golf holiday on the Costa del Sol is easy to enjoy and surprisingly easy to get wrong: a hotel an hour from your courses, tee times too close together, a taxi that doesn't turn up. Here's how to plan it well, or how to let us do it for you.

1. Choose the right base

The coast is longer than many people expect: Sotogrande is about 75–80 minutes from Málaga airport. Choose your base according to the courses you want to play and the kind of evenings you enjoy:

2. Decide how much golf to play

The most popular trip is four nights with three rounds. Playing every day is possible, but a rest day in the middle of a longer trip usually makes for better golf and happier golfers. Keep travel days light: an afternoon round on arrival day is great if your flight lands early.

3. Bring your handicap certificate

Many courses on the Costa del Sol ask visitors to show a recognised handicap, and the most exclusive clubs set maximum handicaps. Bring your handicap certificate or club membership card, or have it available on your phone.

4. Your clubs: bring or rent?

Most airlines carry golf bags as sports equipment for an extra fee, which should be booked in advance. Alternatively, most courses rent good-quality sets, which is convenient for short trips. Our transfer vehicles always have room for golf bags.

5. Buggies, dress code and etiquette

  • Buggies are widely available and recommended on hilly courses such as La Cala or Torrequebrada, and in summer.
  • Dress code: collared shirts, tailored shorts or trousers, and golf shoes with soft spikes. No denim or sportswear on the course.
  • Pace of play is taken seriously at the best clubs, and marshals keep things moving.

6. Book transfers, not taxis

Taxis between the coast and the courses add up quickly and are not always available at the right time, especially for groups with clubs. A private transfer that meets you at arrivals, waits for you at the course and fits all your bags makes the whole trip more relaxing.

7. Book at the right time

For spring and autumn, book 2–6 months ahead, and earlier for large groups or famous courses like Valderrama. For winter and summer, a few weeks is often enough. See our guide to the best time to play.

Or let us do it

This is exactly what we do: we choose the courses, book the tee times, find the right hotel and arrange every transfer, all in one clear proposal with an all-inclusive price. It takes two minutes to tell us about your trip.

Good to know

Questions we're often asked.

Do I need a handicap certificate to play golf in Spain?

Many courses ask visitors to show a recognised handicap, and some exclusive clubs set maximum handicaps. Bring your certificate or club card.

Is it better to bring my own clubs or rent?

For a week, most golfers prefer their own clubs. For a short break, renting at the course can be simpler and cheaper than paying the airline fee.

How many rounds should I play on a golf holiday?

Three rounds in four nights is the most popular choice. On longer trips, a rest day in the middle helps you enjoy every round.
